Founder and director of international project on the Aristotle commentators, 200-600AD, 100 volumes between 1987 and 2012, 67 translators and 281 collaborators in 20 countries, 21 research assistants.
The first 100 volumes have made available philosophy from a period of over 600 years up to 600 AD, the largest component of surviving ancient Greek philosophy and one that constitutes a missing link in the History of Western Philosophy. It re-modelled Ancient Greek thought and handed on to the Middle Ages a reinterpretation of Aristotle that was more influential on subsequent European thought than the original. Besides the 100 volumes of translation, there are 6 of explanation, including a 3-volume Sourcebook. The project has involved 75 translators and over 300 collaborators in 20 countries and 21 research assistants. 25 new volumes of translation are planned so far with Bloomsbury as publisher in 3 formats, on-line, hardback and paperback at less than half price and there is a new 2016 volume of essays showing the latest developments, and stressing the spread of Greek commentary to eastern cultures, from which lost Greek originals are increasingly being translated. The exposition of Athenian philosophy to the King of Persia was reconstructed in 2016 from a distorted Latin version.
